I have been using a basic and inexpensive EMR called Amazing Charts (http://www.amazingcharts.com) for the past year and a half. The cost is quite minimal ($995/physician to purchase, $500 support fee/year), and allows a 3 month trial. It is laid out with tabbed sections like a paper chart, with only 2 windows, unlike the myriad of menus & windows in the pricey ($15,000 and up) commercial EMRs. The next version will be CCHIT-certified later this year. Data entry supports typing, voice dictation or customizable templates. The program will run on a single Windows computer or a network (either peer or server).
If anyone in the Society is interested in further information, or to see the program in action, give me a call.
