SCMS Volunteer Committee Chairman, Thomas Kelley, MD, gave an update of the Haiti Help fundraiser and the specialty care program SCMS is working on with Shepherd's Hope. SCMS Legislative Committee Chairman, Glen Davis, MD, gave a legislative update to the members. Dr. Davis was pleased to announce the UCF Medical School has received full funding for 2009 thanks to the committee's lobbying efforts. SCMS President, Vraj Panara, MD, and SCMS Foundation President, Richard Bragg, MD, present the 2009 Dr. Willie Newman Scholarship Winner, Yesenia Costa, with her award. SCMS Member, Jonathan Waldbaum, MD, gave a fascinating presentation on the nation of Zimbabwe. SCMS Member, Kalyani Gaddipati, MD, spoke on a unique case she had involving a young patient named Kaley Pendley with colon cancer. Patient, Kaley Pendley, shared her success story with colon cancer for SCMS members. Key Note Speaker and President-Elect of the American Medical Association, Cecil Wilson, MD, gave an enlightening talk on healthcare reform in the U.S. 2009 Dr. Willie Newman Scholarship Winner, Yesenia Costa, with her mother, Elena Grady. 2009 Dr. Luis Perez Scholarship Winner, Kara Mia Villanueva, with her mother, Maribel Villanueva.
