Individualized services for physicians wanting one-on-one intervention for improving illegible handwriting can be scheduled by contacting Hilda Rivera directly, or by going through the Seminole County Patient Safety Council. 

Consultation fees are $70.00 for a one-hour session. 

Services will consist of a brief handwriting analysis, discussion of specific factors limiting or interfering with legibility and planning/implementing/practicing corrective recommendations.  If the consultation is made through the Patient Safety Council, the Council will pay for half of the cost of the initial one-hour session.

Seminars: 

Barbara Getty and Inga Dubay, calligraphy professors from Oregon, offer seminars for physicians interested in improving handwriting legibility.  Information is available through the website.  Questions about seminar dates and other information may be submitted to them at info@handwitingsuccess.com.

Barbara Getty and Inga Dubay have also published 2 handwriting books, with Continuing Education Press, Portland State University.

Physicians interested in working independently can purchase the WRITE NOW workbook through http://www.cep.pdx.edu/titles/write_now/, or through www.amazon.com, or obtain it on loan from the Seminole County Patient Safety Council. 

The workbook was designed for adults to learn and practice calligraphy.  The workbook is easy to use with illustrations guiding the user in correct letter formation.  Italic handwriting is different from the traditional cursive or manuscript, so effort and practice are required to incorporate the new style.  Daily practice is needed to ensure permanent changes in penmanship style.  Changes will depend on the physician’s commitment to modify a kinesthetic pattern that has been firmly established.
