CAPS Consumers Advancing Patient Safety - A consumer-led nonprofit organization formed in 2002 to be a collective voice for individuals, families and healers who wish to prevent harm in healthcare encounters through partnership and collaboration.
CMS Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services - Federal agency created to assure health care security for beneficiaries.
DOQ-IT Doctor’s Office Quality-Information Technology - A CMS project to promote the adoption of electronic health record (EHR) systems and information technology in primary care physician offices to improve quality of care, patient safety, and efficiency of healthcare delivery to Medicare beneficiaries.

FMQAI Florida Medical Quality Assurance, Inc. - Florida Quality Improvement Organization created to implement projects focused on improving the care provided to Medicare beneficiaries.
FPSC Florida Patient Safety Corporation - Created in 2004 as a nonprofit corporation to continuously improve patient safety in Florida by serving as a learning organization, assisting health care providers in improving the quality and safety of health care and reducing harm to patients, and working with a consortium of patient safety centers and other patient safety programs.
IHI Institute for Healthcare Improvement - A national nonprofit organization founded in 1991 to drive the improvement of health by advancing the quality and value of health care.
IOM Institute of Medicine - A nonprofit organization chartered in 1970 as a component of the National Academy of Sciences, created to give science-based advice on matters of biomedical science, medicine, and health, by working outside the framework of government to ensure scientifically informed analysis and independent guidance.
ISMP Institute for Safe Medication Practices - A nonprofit organization based in Philadelphia devoted entirely to medication error prevention and safe medication use.
JCAHO Joint Commission for Accreditation of Hospitals Organization - Created in 1951 to continuously improve the safety and quality of care provided to the public through the provision of health care accreditation and related services that support performance improvement in health care organizations.
Leapfrog The Leapfrog Group is a voluntary program aimed at mobilizing employer purchasing power to alert America’s health industry that big leaps in health care safety, quality and customer value will be recognized and rewarded.
NASHP National Academy for State Health Policy - A nonprofit, non-partisan organization dedicated to helping states achieve excellence in health policy and practice.
NCQA National Committee for Quality Assurance - A private, not-for-profit organization dedicated to assessing and reporting on the quality of managed care plans.
NPSF National Patient Safety Foundation - A national non-profit organization created to improve the safety of patients through the creation of a core body of knowledge; the identification of pathways to apply the knowledge; the development and enhancement of the culture of receptivity to patient safety; and raising public awareness and foster communications about patient safety.
NQF National Quality Forum - A nonprofit membership organization created to develop and implement a national strategy for healthcare quality measurement and reporting.
PSRS Patient Safety Reporting System (VA) - A program jointly developed by the Veteran's Health Administration (VHA) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to discover and learn about issues related to patient safety through a voluntary, confidential reporting system.
PVRP Physician Voluntary Reporting Program - A voluntary reporting program launched in 2006, where physicians who choose to participate will help capture data about the quality of care provided to Medicare beneficiaries.
QIO Quality Improvement Organizations - A national network of 53 QIOs under the direction of CMS working with consumers and physicians, hospitals, and other caregivers to refine care delivery systems to make sure patients get the right care at the right time, particularly patients from underserved populations.
