Interconnecting Healthcare
The Florida RHIOs: The Governor's Health Information Infrastructure (GHII) is creating a health information technology (HIT) network which will eventually allow Florida healthcare providers to interconnect. At this time the GHII is divided into eight Regional Healthcare Information Organizations (RHIOs) - each building their own local information infrastructures. The goal is for the RHIOs to eventually join to create one healthcare information infrastructure for Florida.
The Florida effort is similar to those in many other states. A recent status report entitled "Development of State Level Health Information Initiatives" reviewed various state-wide initiatives, some of the barriers and challenges to implementation, and what needs to be done to advance these initiatives.
