2012 Award Winner

On May 15th, 2012 SCMS presented the 2012 "Dr. Luis Perez Scholarship" award to Madison Morgan who is a Seminole County home schooled student.  Madison plans to attend the University of Central Florida this fall, where she will focus on becoming a Pediatric Cardiologist.

Emily Starnes

On May 17th, 2011 SCMS presented the 2011 "Dr. Luis Perez Scholarship" award to Emily Starnes from Lake Mary High School. Emily plans to attend the University of Tennessee this fall, where she will focus on medicine and psychology in pursuit of a career as a genetic counselor.

2010 Award Winner

On May 18th, 2010, SCMS presented the 2010 "Dr. Luis Perez Scholarship" award to Sefanit Tucker from Winter Springs High School.  Sefanit plans to attend Yale University this fall, where she plans to double major in Molecular Biology and History of Medicine.  She aspires to attend medical school so she can become an obstetrician-gynecologist.

On May 19th, 2009, SCMS presented the 2009 “Dr. Luis Perez Scholarship” award to Kara Mia Villanueva from Seminole High School.  Kara Mia plans to attend the University of Florida this fall, where she plans to pursue her interest in obstetrics and gynecology.

On May 20th, 2008, SCMS presented the 2008 “Dr. Luis Perez Scholarship” award to Jenna Nikles from Winter Springs High School.  Jenna plans to attend the University of Central Florida this fall, where she plans to pursue her interest in the sciences and graphic design.

2007 Award Winners

Allison Trujillo

On May 22, 2007, the Seminole County Medical Society presented a 2007 “Dr. Luis Perez Scholarship” award to Allison Trujillo from Crooms Academy. Allison will enroll in the University of Florida this fall, where she will pursue a pre-professional medical major. Her goal is follow her love of science to become the best researcher or physician she can be.

Allison has been extremely involved in cancer-related subjects since the start of high school. She has volunteered with the American Cancer Society, and on the oncology ward of Florida Hospital. Allison has been President of the Beta Club, a member of the varisty bowling team, Vice President of the National Honor Society Club, and was Treasurer of the Student Council. Allison was a member of the Business Professionals of America’s Global Marketing Team that took 1st place in the state in 2007.

The Seminole County Medical Society congratulates Allison on winning one of our two 2007 Dr. Luis Perez Scholarships.

Ashley receives her 2007 Dr. Luis Perez Scholarship from SCMS President Dr. John Robertson at the May 22, 2007 medical society meeting.

On May 22, 2007, the Seminole County Medical Society also presented a 2007 “Dr. Luis Perez Scholarship” award to Ashley Cannaday from Lake Howell High School.   Ashley is currently undecided as to her college or field of study, but is leaning towards majoring in physics.  She is looking forward to traveling, and experiencing the new cultures and opportunities that college has to offer.

Ashley comes from a close knit family, and has always set her standards high.  In addition to excelling in academics, Ashley has played on the Lake Howell varsity fast pitch softball team, is the Treasurer of the Lake Howell National Honor Society Club, is the Vice President of the Lake Howell Chemistry Honor Society, and is a member of Future Healthcare Professionals of America.  She also holds a part-time job as an investigative aid for the State Department of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco.

The Seminole County Medical Society congratulates Ashley on winning one of our two 2007 Dr. Luis Perez Scholarships.

2006 Award Winner

The 2006 “Dr. Luis Perez Scholarship” award winner

On May 23, 2006, the Seminole County Medical Society presented the 2006 “Dr. Luis Perez Scholarship” award to an outstanding young lady - Jessica Gardner from Seminole High School.  Jessica will attend Seminole Community College, where she will begin her preparation for a career in nursing. 

Jessica is a dedicated animal lover, and a volunteer for the Southeast Border Collie Rescue Society.  Her favorite sport is horseback riding, which she has done competitively since age four.  To help with the expenses of this sport, she works part time at the stable, where her duties include grooming, riding, exercising and training horses that belong to others, cleaning stalls, driving the tractor to spread stall waste, and other general barn maintenance. 

She has been a member of the Seminole High weightlifting team for four years, and the lacrosse team for three years.  She feels her involvement in all these activities helped her realize that hard work and dedication are essential to achieving any goal.

The Seminole County Medical Society congratulates Jessica on winning the 2006 Dr. Luis Perez Scholarship.
