On May 17th, 2011, SCMS announced the 2011 "Dr. Willie Newman Scholarship" award would go to Leanne Dumeny from Seminole High School. Leanne plans to attend the University of Florida this fall where she wants to major in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology with a minor in Japanese & Chemistry. Leanne aspires to someday become a Cardiothoracic Surgeon.

2010 Award Winner
Victoria Persampiere
On May 18th, 2010, SCMS announced the 2010 "Dr. Willie Newman Scholarship" award would go to Victoria Persampiere from Oviedo High School. Victoria plans to attend the University of Florida in the fall where she aspires to become a physician.

2009 Award Winner
On May 19th, 2009, SCMS presented the 2009 “Dr. Willie Newman Scholarship” award to Yesenia Costa from Lyman High School. Yesenia plans to pursue her goal of becoming an anesthesiologist. She has been very involved in sports including volleyball, basketball, and was part of the 2007 World Series Championship Softball Team. Yesenia is also a volunteer with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

2008 Award Winner
Chantel Grubbs
On May 20, 2008, SCMS presented the 2008 “Dr. Willie Newman Scholarship” award to Chantel Grubbs from Seminole High School. Chantel will attend Florida State University this fall, where she plans to pursue her goal of becoming a pharmacist. She has been very involved in school, being a member of the National Honor Society, active in the Student Government Association, and working on the Senior Class Council.
