Members began to congregate at 6:00 PM. The meeting was called to order at 6:45 PM by SCMS President Dr. John Robertson.
Dr. Robertson acknowledged the volunteers and the Table Exhibitors for their support throughout 2007.

Dr. Robertson introduced Lillian Reyes, Executive Director, to assist with the Exhibitor drawing. The winner for May 22, 2007 was Dr. Lloyd Werk and for September 18, 2007 the winner was Dr. Bruce Hoffen. Each received a box of golf balls compliments of Lake Mary Imaging Center, and the Society will give them credit of $100 toward their 2008 membership.
Dr. Robertson introduced our Program Partner Orlando National Bank. John Christman, Executive VP introduced Cynthia Glaspey. Ms. Glaspey then talked about ONB's Remote Deposit Service product and its conveniences. Thereafter, Sherry Bailey provided additional details of the product. ONB Remote Deposit lets you make business deposits electronically from your own desk with significant operational savings and improved overall funds availability. ONB is one of few banks in the nation to offer this service.
Dr. Mardi Bishop announced that South Seminole Hospital will hold a Silent Action to benefit the SCMS Foundation's Dr. Willie Newman Scholarship Fund at the hospital's Doctor Ball on October 13, 2007. The Ball will be held at the Orlando Marriott at Lake Mary at 7 PM. Dr. Dawson talked about the EMR Conference scheduled on October 20th beginning at 8 AM – 4 PM at UCF. He outlined that registration is open and available online at www.ce.ucf.edu/emr, or you can call to reserve your seat at 407-622-8188.
Dr. Thomas Kelley introduced the President of Shepherd’s Hope Cindi Kopelman, along with the Medical Director Dr. Greg Zittel. Cindi talked about the success of the clinic and the need for primary care physicians, nurses and physician assistants. Dr. Jesse Johnson gave an update on the premed preceptorship program in conjunction with UCF. Aaron Cross who is a student currently in the program was at our meeting. Problems with physicians bringing their students to the hospitals are being addressed and hopefully solved soon. Further information on this will be distributed as it is received. The program seems to be a success thus far.
Our Keynote Speaker Kim Streit spoke about the shortage of physicians in Florida. Ms. Streit outlined current and projected needs for physician specialties, as well as the serious problem of shortage in ER call coverage physicians. She noted that in 2007 the Florida State Legislature passed a bill requiring the Department of Health to assess the demographics of physician supply in the state. Physician licensure will not be renewed if the new application survey is not completed. Next Meeting – November 13, 2007 - was announced. Our main speaker will be Winter Park State Representative Dean Cannon (2010 House Speaker-designate), who will talk on “The Politics of Medicine - the 2007 & 2007 Legislative Sessions”.
