The SCMS Alliance
The Seminole County Medical Society Alliance is the local organization for spouses of physicians. We work in partnership with the physicians of the Seminole County Medical Society to promote good health in our community, support charitable programs, encourage involvement in the legislative process and provide opportunities for networking and social interaction. We are fortunate to have access to the resources of the Alliance federation, which includes the FMA Alliance and AMA Alliance.
Formerly known as the SCMS Auxiliary, today's Alliance is a hard-working, diverse group that welcomes physicians' spouses, physicians, men and women, young families and retired persons. Our members care about improving the health and safety of our community, while supporting each other and the family of medicine.

SCMS Alliance Projects & Activities:
Pro-medicine legislation
The SCMS Alliance keeps abreast of legislation which has a bearing on medicine and the quality of health care in Florida. We maintain a strong grassroots network that can be mobilized quickly to contact legislators about a particular issue. Our efforts helped pass a state constitutional amendment, as well as defeat unfavorable legislation. We continue to maintain open communications with the Medical Society and the FMA regarding pending legislation, and will forward legislative updates and alerts to our members.
Hands are NOT for Hitting program
The SCMS Alliance uses the resources of the AMA Alliance's STOP AMERICA'S VIOLENCE EVERYWHERE campaign to combat the growing problem of violence in schools. Members present an anti-bullying program at a local elementary school using the Hands Are NOT for Hitting activity book. We have partnered with the Women’s Advisory Council of Central Florida Regional Hospital, and SunTrust Bank, who have graciously helped us with supplies.
AnySoldier Program
The SCMS Alliance participates in the AnySoldier program, sending "care" packages to U.S. troops fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan. Supplies such as eyewash, shampoo, hand-sanitizing wipes and "comfort" food such as beef jerky, candy and granola bars help supplement what the government provides for the troops. Regardless of any political views, we feel it is important to support the emotional health and well-being of our troops overseas by giving them some of the comforts of home
Safehouse of Seminole
The SCMS Alliance conducts fundraising for Safehouse of Seminole, a local shelter for victims of domestic violence. In the past we have collected used cell phones, gift cards and holiday gift wrap for the families at the Safehouse.
Other Fundraising
The SCMS Alliance supports charitable endeavors, and encourages its members to develop other programs of interest to them, especially with the many resources available from the FMAA and AMAA.
Doctors' Day
Each March 30 the nation celebrates National Doctors' Day. This date was designated by a Joint Resolution of the U.S. Congress as a day to show appreciation for our nation's doctors. The SCMS Alliance supports Doctors' Day.
Hospitality
The SCMS Alliance sponsors an Annual Holiday Luncheon in December, and a Spring Luncheon. The Alliance also participates in a combined Annual Dinner with the Seminole County Medical Society, and recently has been invited to all their quarterly dinner meetings. These are excellent opportunities for members to share camaraderie and socialize in an informal setting.
Leadership Meetings
Members of SCMS Alliance are encouraged to participate in various annual leadership seminars and meetings presented by the FMA Alliance and AMA Alliance.
Newsletters
The SCMS Alliance periodically publishes a newsletter for its members, complete with photos and current information. Please send us your home address if you would like to receive our newsletters.
Email Updates
The SCMS Alliance posts email announcements, updates and legislative alerts to its vast database of physician spouses. Please send us your email address if you would like to receive these timely announcements.

Statewide Awards Received:
Jill Edison Award for Legislative Activity - 2005
One of the most prestigious state awards, given to only one county Alliance every year. SCMSA developed a hallmark grassroots program to help pass Amendment 3, which capped attorneys’ contingency fees in malpractice cases. Alliance members made door-to-door visits to doctors' offices to distribute instructions and materials about the petitions and to vote "Yes on 3"; collected petition signatures at the library, at a cardiac health fair and by other means; and participated at several rallies and protests. The Alliance Legislative Committee and several members who worked in their spouses’ offices were instrumental in earning this trophy.
First Place Award for Best County Fundraiser - 2005
The SCMSA was unprecedented in participating in the AnySoldier Program. With the goal of fostering the emotional health and well-being of U.S. troops fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan, regardless of politics, members raised cash and goods to send "CARE" packages overseas, giving 16 servicemen some of the comforts of home. We received several heartwarming letters of thanks.
First Place Membership Award, Category 1-50 members - 2005
SCMSA had a 44% increase in dues-paid membership in 2005. We also had increases in FMAA and AMAA membership. We hope to continue this trend.
Second Place Newsletter Award, Category 1-50 members - 2005
The SCMSA newsletter is published a couple times a year, and is a valuable source of information. Announcements, photos, and news from the Seminole County Medical Society are included. Please send us your home address if you wish to receive our newsletters.
