SCMS is extremely fortunate to be affiliated with a strong Florida Medical Association to look after our needs on the state level. The FMA provides its over 17,000 members with a unified voice and excellent representation in state legislation, ethical and legal affairs, medical economics, and practice and medical issues. The SCMS is proud of our close relationship with the FMA, and we urge all our members to get to know the superb individuals who make up the FMA’s administrative and physician leadership.
Every SCMS member without exception should also be a member of the FMA. Steve is practicing cardiologist in Fort Myers, and has been a member of Cardiology Consultants of Southwest Florida since 2004. He received his medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine in 1979, where he also completed his internship and residency.
Steve has served in various leadership positions with the FMA, including the Medical District Representative on the Board of Governors, FMA Executive Committee member, Florida Medical Foundation Board of Directors, Founding Member of the Abel S. Baldwin, MD Society, and Chair of the Council on Legislation. He is a Florida AMA Delegate and has served as President of FMA PAC. He is a past recipient of the Edward Annis, MD Award for Political Activism.

Tim Stapleton, FMA Executive Vice President
Tim was appointed as the FMA EVP in 2008. He has more than 17 years of legislative and political experience. Prior to joining the FMA, he worked for the AMA, the Medical Society of the State of New York, and as legislative director for the Illinois Attorney General. Tim is a graduate of Indiana University with a B.A. in Political Science.
