2010 SCMS President - Tanya Agard, M.D.
As we approach a new year it's also time to welcome our new president, Dr. Tanya Agard. Dr. Agard was born and raised in Queens, New York and attended SUNY Stony Brook for her undergraduate studies. Following that, she completed medical school with Pennsylvania State School of Medicine. In 1995, after medical school, Dr. Agard moved to Florida where she began her residency with ORMC in downtown Orlando and also served as Chief Resident. Her initial job was with ORMC as a hospitalist however, once they suspended their hospitalist program, Dr. Agard went to work for a few other groups in town until starting her own hospitalist group in 2001. Currently, her group covers 5 hospitals in Seminole and Orange counties. Dr. Agard has been very involved in the medical staff at Florida Hospital, having just completed a 4-year term as Assistant Chief and subsequently Chief of Staff at Florida Hospital Apopka. She is currently a Teaching Attending for St. Matthews University students for their Internal Medicine rotation. Dr. Agard is married with 3 children ages 4, 2, and 6 months. Her hobbies include roller/ice skating, but mostly spending time with her family when she has the free time.
Dr. Agard's goals for the Seminole County Medical Society in 2010 include continuing to advocate for physicians so there is favorable legislation; highlighting and enhancing the value-added services to members such as vendor discounts through group purchasing, CMEs, member events, office manager education, and more; improving the safety and care provided to our patients; and improving indigent care access without overburdening physicians. Dr. Agard intends to achieve these goals by having active participation by members on our committees and increasing overall membership and interest in the society.
